Locality: Tanzania, Africa

This material only seems to be mined sporadically, and often can not be found. The color ranges from a red to red/pink to mauve, pinkish to a yellow/copper color (this is not the dark saturated red material that often comes from Kenya). A lot of these stones have a metallic look, which is interesting when cut. These are High Zircons (crystal), and have some heat sensitivity, the lighter colors make good Barions.

Madagascar Zircon - $4 to $12/carat
Locality: Africa

 

This Zircon is from Madagascar (mostly, there may be a few from other locations... I buy them as a mix so it is hard to know exactly, the miners all drift around). The colors are quite nice, a medium yellow/gold to green, reddish, clear, and light to pale yellow, to orange/yellow. These stones are rather unusual in color, cut them in any brilliant design.

Fancy Zircon - $4 to $12/carat
Locality: Kenya/Tanzania, Africa

This material only seems to be mined sporadically, and often can not be found. It is a mix from the Kenya/Tanzania region and does not seem to be from one mine. The color ranges from a red to red/orange to mauve, pinkish to a yellow/gold color. A lot of it seems to have a metallic look to it, which is interesting when cut. The sizes are usually 2-10cts in the rough with the occasional larger stone. These cut like most Zircons, and have some heat sensitivity, the lighter colors make good small Barions, the darker red/oranges are great for Brilliants.
