Dravite Tourmaline - $6 to $30/carat
Locality: Tanzania, Africa
This material is really very interesting and rather unusual. I seldom see Dravite Tourmaline with this much nice bright color and life.

The colors are bright yellow to yellow/orange/red and the a/b axis on a lot of this material is a bright yellow/green. When cut this Tourmaline makes a very bright lively stone.

The shapes are all reasonable, but as you can easily see this material is coming out of hard rock.

With this material in the rough state there are often a lot of flaws to deal with as well very poor shapes and yields.

Note: This material has been hand cleaned. If you are familiar with this rough then you know how hard it is to get clean, because this material usually has fractures and flaws in it.. This is all clean.

The shapes tend to be a layer like and convoluted. This material also has rock candy types of faces and surfaces which often need to be shaped up. The yields on this material will all be fair to very good because it has been "hand cleaned" by me and I have cleaned up the shapes. About any design you like will work very well in this rough, I like brilliant designs.

Sunset Tourmaline - $3 to $16/carat
Locality: Kenya, Africa
This material is mixed shapes, some of them are great some are just average.

The colors are mixed from a brown with a yellow green axis, deep orange with a slight red, yellow/green with a gold axis.

There is also some chrome green type of material in the parcel, but not pure green in color. The colors are very unusual and all of the axis are open.

I never know exactly what this material is going to cut, but that is really part of the fun. Brilliant cuts for the most part, are what I would recommend.
