Afghan Bi-Color Tourmaline - $20 to $100/carat
Locality: Afghanistan

These bi colors are very rare, both in locality and the fact that they are flawless. These stones are perfect for my classic Smith Barr cut and really do cut georgous stones. The colors are a very nice light pink/peach to mint green and as you can see the color zones vary.

Siberian Bi-Color - $12/carat

These BI Colors are very rare, both in locality and the fact that they are flawless. These stones are perfect for classic step cuts (a couple are already preformed) to emphasize the BI Color... They will not cut large, but will yield very well, they are heat sensitive (BI-colors are always tender, especially where the colors change), but other than that will cut like most Tourmaline.
Currently Available:
1 each 2.92 carats - $35.04 bi-color, best cut step - 4.5mm x 18.5mm x 3mm deep
1 each 2.63 carats - $31.56 bi-color, best cut step (preformed) - 4.4mm x 16.9mm x 3mm deep
Green to Blue Tourmaline - $50/carat
Locality: Nigeria, Africa

This is top blue/green to blue and quite rare clean... As you can see it is a very pretty stone and I have skinned the rind off of it so the yield will be very high. There is a little more blue and it it a little more centered than the picture shows. Depending on the light the colors look a little different.
Currently Available:
1 each 47.18 carats - $2359.00 - Top blue/green to blue, best cut is "Smith Bar" or "Easy Emerald" - 13.6mm x 24.8mm x 13.1mm deep
Bi Color Tourmaline - $30/carat
Locality: Nigeria, Africa

These crystals are from a very small find recently in Nigeria. There was very little material mined in this pocket before it played out. The crystals are all blue to green and will cut very nice stones. These stones are just about perfect for my "Smith Bar" design and will also work well in other checker boards as well as a traditional emerald cut like my "Easy Emerald". Any type of bi colored crystals with Indicolite is rare and I seldom see them... especially rough.
As you can see the green to blue color zones are gradual and depending on the crystal some of them are stripes... I will try to describe the percentage (same order as the color description, blue/green 70/30 %... 70% is blue) of each color in the crystals. These will only be approximations. Obviously the more expensive crystals are the ones with the best color definition. Most all of these crystal are open "c" axis except for the very long ones (long ones would be open if they were shorter). The "c" axis is blue to blue/green...

The Nigerian Tourmaline find was probably one of the largest that has ever been found. But there was actually very few crystals that could be called bi color or multi color. These stones are just about perfect for my "Smith Bar" design and will also work well in other checker boards as well as a traditional emerald cuts like my "Easy Emerald". These types of bi colored crystals are actually rare in the rough and I seldom see them... The colors are mostly pastel, not saturated...
