Chrome Green Garnet Simulant - $0.45/carat
Locality: USA![]()
This material is actually not real Tsavorite Garnet (1.73), it is chemically and property wise pretty close and of course color wise, this material it is a dead ringer for the best colored Tsavorite Garnet available.
This material is not expensive compared to the real thing and will cut a very nice stone with out too much difficulty, I have been told. I have not cut it myself yet. The hardness is 7, and the RI is 1.72.
Note: There are people selling this material as geniune man-made Tsavorite Garnet. It is not. Some people are even using a phrase like "cultured Tsavorite Garnet" and "not YAG" which is true, this material is not YAG, but it is not created Tsavorite either.
This material is very similar but it is not the same thing as real Tsavorite Garnet chemically and the people selling it as the real thing are lets say less than honest.
