Man-Made Tanzanite (Sapphire) - $.26/carat
Locality: Swiss
![]()
I really do not cut man-made material very often, but a lot of people do, and I have to admit the finished stones are often very pretty. This is the color of a top quality Tanzanite, blue/purple. This material is made in the USA. Sapphire needs to be polished with diamonds, these colors can be cut in just about any design, but work best in a brilliant or checker board.
Note: The Swiss material is a bit more money than the Russian and Chinese, but it has better and more consistant color plus it ususally cuts better too.
Although tempting because of price and color, I do not recommend this material for a new cutter, it is a bit tough to cut and polish for a novice.
