Man-Made Padaparadschah (Sapphire) - $.16/carat
Locality: Swiss

  Man-Made Padaparadschah Sapphire

I really do not cut man-made material very often, but a lot of people do, and I have to admit the finished stones are often very pretty. This is Padaparadschah (orange/pink) and you should try it it makes a striking stone. Sapphire needs to be polished with diamonds, these colors can be cut in just about any design.

Note: The Swiss material is a bit more money than the Russian and Chinese, but it has better and more consistant color plus it ususally cuts better too. The color will still tend to be out near the rind and need orientation.

Although tempting because of price and color, I do not recommend this material for a new cutter, it is a bit tough to cut and polish for a novice.
