This Sapphire is unheated and it is decent sized, these are natural colors and will cut medium to light/medium saturation. The colors are blue and often have yellow areas which makes them look teal color. Checker boards are a very good choice for this rough.

This Sapphire is unheated and it is decent sized, these are natural colors and Umba tends to look a little different color when cut.

Tanzania Sapphires - $6 to $100/carat
Locality: Tanzania, Africa

 

This Sapphire is unheated and it is usually not large in size (3-6cts is fairly large), as most of this material is under 2 cts. The colors range quite a bit depending on the light they are viewed in, they are not quite color change (at least I would not say so for most of them).

There are reds that some people call Ruby, but in my experience, when they are cut the color, while red, usually has too many other colors (or shift, usually blue/green, heating can sometimes take this out) in it to be called Ruby.

I just call it "Fancy Sapphire" and most of the jewelers I do business with are quite happy with this material. It needs some orientation for the color you want, and expect some mixing, it cuts well in most Brilliant designs.
