Ametrine Quartz - $1.50/ct by parcel
Locality: Bolivia, South America

This is nice material, it has been sawed clean but the color zones vary and will need to be orientated on some of this material. Some color zones are in the middle but a lot of them are 1/3 or even 1/4 so they will need to be orientated.
Try cutting these in my checkerboards designs and "Money Cuts". I often orientate the the colors (zones) so that the split is diagonal to the designs or lengthwise on a bar cut, it makes neat stones and the rough is very reasonably priced. Sizes range from slightly over 5 carats to 40 carats rough, average is probably 10 to 20 carats, color zones are random. Parcel weights will vary a little depending on the stones.

The color zones on this material are all quite nice and they will all make quality cut stones. These stones are all sawed clean. The zones in this rough are orientated but not as separated as the other material (above) and will tend to mix a little in the finished stones.
Note: This material is called "Blended" in the trade, because of the mixed colors and this material is almost always light to medium saturation.
The effects of the colors mixing can be stunning and they make a very unusual stone. I like this material in about any design, but am partial to deep checker boards and Barions because the colors are medium light in saturation.

Large Sawed Clean Ametrine - $0.50 carat
Locality: Bolivia, South America

This material has been sawed clean and is really a bargain at this price, almost all of the waste has been cut off. There might be an occasional spot, but this material is clean in general. The sizes and shapes vary, there is not much smaller than 10 carats and a lot of them are over 100 carats, average is probably 20 to 60 carats at a guess.
The colors are medium/light and the color zones are randon some are more Amethyst or Citrine than others. I like this material in about any design, but I am partial to deep checker boards and Barions because the colors are medium to light in saturation.

This is nice material for the person who likes to cut Quartz. The color and sizes are mixed, from light to medium color, and 1-10+ (a few, average 3-5 grams) grams in size. Some pieces will cut nice Ametrine, and some will cut Citrine or Amethyst, depending on how you go. Pictured, is a piece of Amethyst form this lot in my "SweetHeart". It has all been clipped, however there are spots and/or veils that will need to be worked out.
This is actually pretty good practice for a new cutter, the material is not expensive and there are good stones in this material, but you will need to identify and read the material to work them out. I would suggest that you get a bottle of Refractol and start getting some hands on learning experience, there is no substitute for actually cleaning rough material yourself. Parcels poured out of the bag, it's pot luck on what you get....
