Sawed Clean Medium/Dark Amethyst - $1.25/ct to $1.00/ct

This is really nice material for the money. This material is quite a bit darker than Bolivian Amethyst. The color is medium to dark purple and nice, there is a color zone once and a while but this material is good and solid color. If you like my sawed clean Ametrine and Rose de France then you will really like this material. Sizes are basically 10 carats to 20 carats per piece and there are a few larger and smaller ones. Random pour and sizes are mixed, all of these stones are nice sized.

Note: Medium colored Maraba is several shades lighter than this material, people selling it as medium colored Amethyst are being less than truthful. There is a significant color difference.

Uruguay Amethyst Points "Medium Color" - $1.20 to $2.50/carat
Locality: Uruguay, South America

This material is a nice medium color, sometimes darker but may have a little zoning. The colors are a rich purple with some magenta highlights. I mostly cut for the best yield because the zones usually mix and blend making a beautiful rich colored stone. These are great performs and will yield very well with the natural point as a pavilion. I cut them in Barions or some other deeper design, there are no problems when cutting this material.

Note: The zoned pieces I would cut in a checker board, they work well and make interesting stones.

Maraba Amethyst - $1 to $6/carat
Locality: Brazil, South America

This material is large and clean... The Maraba mine in Brazil is not producing much material any more and this material is getting increasingly difficult to get. In particular the large quality material is very difficult. For anybody that likes to cut very large Amethyst this is some of the best material available.

It is a medium light to medium color with gorgeous blue/purple/magenta colors in it. The material is a little deceptive when you first look, it seems to be a little zoned, but when cut, the zones blend nicely and finish as some of the best stones you will ever see. I like it in about any design, I generally cut for cleanliness and yield, and usually do not worry about the orientation much. Because of the size of this rough Barions are a good choice.

Note: The colors and the color zones will appear differently depending on the light. So check the rough in different light types before cutting.
