Oregon Opal - $1 to 3/carat
Locality: Oregon
This material is very interesting, it is all facet grade.

But will work very well for carving and cabbing too.

Some of this material is very slightly sleepy, but has a very good blue to yellow/orange glow, depending on the light.

It very much looks "Opal like..." is the best way to describe it. Opalescence is the term that comes to mind. There is no fire in this material, but it definitely does bend the light and have interesting color effects. The colors also change in different lights.

Some of this material is also completely clear and bright, with no real opalescence at all, this Opal is colorless to yellow, to red/orange. It just depends on the particular piece. This material is from the Butte Mountain find and really is much better looking than most of the Juniper Ridge material I have seem which to me is often kind of dull looking and not nearly as bright or as opalescense.

This material is very reasonably priced and is fun cutting for about any lever cutter. The color of this material is exceptional, cut them in about any opal design. Opal can be heat sensitive, so be careful dopping.

Note: Remember that Opal weighs light, so look at the millimeter measurements listed for size. Also all the Opal I sell is dry and has been for quite a while to elimate the water/wet problems Opals can have.
