Umbalite Garnet Parcels - $4/carat

Umbalite Garnets are always a premium material, and can be difficult to find.

True Umbalite Garnets come from Umba Valley in Tanzania and the true color is pink/purple/red.

This material is consistently 1/2 to 1 shade lighter than normal Rhodolite Garnets and they cut a very bright finished stone.

This material is all mixed shapes, but the pieces are all 5 to 7 carats and will cut at least 1 carat finished stones. The color is pretty consistently pink/purple/red. Very nice cutting.

This material really cut nice bright stone and most of these stones are clean, there will be some random flaws and odd shapes but not very many, this is parcel material after all.

This is a deal guys and I do not have a lot of this material so do not procrastinate...

Umbalite Garnet - $5 to $35/carat
Locality: Tanzania, Africa

This is probably the all time classic Rhodolite Garnet.

Most people that have cut Umbalite would say it is the "King of Rhodolites". The color of Umbalite is pink/purple with maybe some slight red highlights.

The major difference between Umbalite and regular Rhodolite is that Umbalite tends to be a bit lighter and is much more intense purple/pink than other Garnets.

The saturation of this material is typically 1/2 a shade or so lighter than most other Rhodolite Garnets for the size. Depending on the stones of course. The saturation and color differences are particularly noticeable in smaller sized stones, but the careful eye can see the differences in large stones too. Large stones, like in all Garnets tend to get darker as the size increases. However, in Umbalite the larger stones will still look brighter and slightly lighter in the rough, as well as cut a much more purple/pink stone.

The color of Umbalite is usually very intense when cut and is much brighter than most other Rhodolite Garnets. If you have ever seen cut Rhodolites that look like Rhodolite, but seems to have that extra intensity and kick, that is Umbalite.

It is easy to cut, and works well in almost any design with high yields, because the majority of the material is nodules. This material is highly sought after by the "pros" that cut for a living, because they want that extra "kick" that Umbalite has when cut. Umbalite is what the majority of professional cutters cut and sell as Rhodolite in their show cases.

This material is ideal for cutting checker boards and brilliants design.
