Buying rough by the parcel is a good practical way to get quality rough at a better price. Parcels are cheaper because the pieces of rough have not been hand selected, which is basically labor. There may be (or may not be) some pieces of rough in a parcel with minor problems and some pieces maybe not be ideal shapes and yields. That is just how parcels are...

Parcels are cheaper bacause of this variety and also the fact that I do not have to take the time and labor involved to hand clean each piece of rough. If you have ever hand cleaned rough then you know that doing it takes a significant amount of time and labor.

Parcels can also be cheaper because of the quantity involved. In other words more rough and a larger sale means less time and handling involved and I can afford to sell for a bit less.

Pink/Red Garnet - $0.60/carat
Locality: Kenya

This material is MINE RUN... Some dealers are selling lower quality grades of this material and calling it Malaya or Rhodolite... Which is not true and dishonest advertising.

I have not sorted it so there will be clean ones and also pieces with flaws. This material runs pretty decent and well... at this price it is a bargain. The color is pretty, it is red with some pink/peach highlights and this is not dark.

Size range from 2.5 carats to about 10 carats and the sizes and shapes are random. It probably averages around 4-6 carats. Colors and shapes are mixed and random.

Rhodolite Garnet - $1.50 to $1.00/carat
Locality: Tanzania, Africa

 

This material is actually very good cutting. It is classic pink/purple/red Rhodolite color. The size ranges from 3 carats to 6 carats or so rough. The average is about 3.8 to 4.2 carats. Most of this rough will cut 3/4 to 1.5 carat finished stones.

These parcels are just a pour out of the bag, so there will be a mix of shapes and some random flaws. But most of this material is pretty good and clean. The supply is limited... At this price it will sell fast.

Mozambique Garnet - $0.80/carat
Locality: Mozambique, Africa

 

This material is actually very good cutting. It is saturated and will need to be cut in brilliants and will work especially well in checker boards. The sizes are all mixed and 1 to 2 grams in size and the color is red to a little red/orange, there will be some saturation differences from piece to piece. Average size is probably just over a gram.

These parcels are just a pour out of the bag, so there will be a mix of shapes and some random flaws. But most of this material is pretty good and clean. The supply is limited... At this price it will sell fast.
