Rose (Quartz)
Date - Pricing as of April 2008Color: Light pink to dark pink, slightly silky to silky pink, pink/reddish, to star.
Note: There has to be a distinction drawn between different Rose Quartz. There is facet grade (slight silk), bead grade (silk), star grade (silk asterism). All of these types have various uses and can be any thing from pale saturation to dark saturation.Note2: It might surprise people to know that there is occasionally very high quality Rose Quartz available with strong pink to peach or pink to reddish color with very minimal silk. The material looks like top quality Morganite.
Also there is a bead grade Rose Quartz that is so strong a color (with silk) that it looks almost pink/reddish. These top grades are the most difficult to get and also the most expensive, most people probably have never seen them. But they are available.
Note3: I generally price the bright pink color a little higher then the peach, but not always. Some times the pink/peach color is very nice, in which case I would price it as high or higher than the pink. It just depends on the color and stone.
Note4: Generally I do not agree with lowering the price of a faceted stone as it gets larger. But in the case of light colored Rose, I some times do lower the per/carat cost as a gemstone becomes larger to help off set the difference in cost and the labor. In other words the cost of light faceting material is inexpensive and as a stone gets larger the cost of the gemstone can be lowered to make the purchase price more reasonable and fair.
Note5: Bead grade to me means high quality, no feathers, no fractures, no visible flaws. Solid translucent to opaque clean (except the silk) material. Strong color.

On these kinds of stones I basically price how ever I feel like. Because this stone comes under the "special" category I often do not care if I sell the stone or not. So I usually price it high enough that if I do sell it, I get a very good price. Enough to make me say "Oh well..." and sell it. So be aware that some times I just price a stone high because I do not care if I sell it. Ironically these stones usually sell the fastest...
