Torches, Alcohol Lamps
Alcohol Lamp
There are quite a few types of alcohol lamps available. Most of them are simple to use and inexpensive. I dop with wax and recommend that you learn how. It is by far the easiest (once you learn) and the most versatile. I use an alcohol lamp to dop the stone initially with, because it is easier to control the heat with and there is less likelihood of thermal shocking (heating to fast or much) your stone (some people use a Blazer torch). Be sure and use the recommended alcohol in the lamp (usually wood alcohol or some thing similar)Price $5.95
Blazer Torch
There area lot of different torches like this on the market, some very cheap ones. But I find that the cheap ones do not hold up and the flame is hard to control.I recommend a torch like this. I use it for when I am transferring a stone (to cut the crown) and I want pinpoint heat. It helps get quick heat on the dop/wax, without heating the actual stone much.
The fuel is a butane that you can buy at most hardware stores (comes in a can, you refill the torch through a valve on the bottom), or smoke shops. I do not ship it because of Federal Regulations... Price $58.95
