8" Economy Plates/Caps
Note: There are very cheap laps and saw blades available, but be aware that the reason these laps/blades are cheap is because they are made will filler materials (like carbide/sand) and do not have the cutting diamonds a quality lap does.
You will get what you pay for... These toppers are of very good quality and will wear and cut well.
100 Diamond......(extra coarse) - $38.50
260 Diamond..................(coarse) - $36.50
600 Diamond................(medium) - $33.50
1200 Diamond.....................(fine) - $30.50These are made over seas and actually pretty good quality, especially since all the major lap manufacturers have all moved out of the USA. These are diamond plated plates/caps/toppers that run on top of a master lap for cutting. Because they are thinner steel they are a lot cheaper to manufacturer and also a lot cheaper to ship and buy.
These are really a bargain for people on a budget or people that are just starting in the faceting hobby. A lot of pros use these because frankly for the money you get a lot of bang for the dollar.
In my opinion there is very little to no difference between these plates/caps/toppers versus solid steel laps in the coarser grits. In coarse grits flatness is not an issue and actually these laps do run pretty flat. They are a bargain and work quite well for about any one that wants to start faceting or cabbing on a budget.
The 1200 topper works pretty well and is fine for an economy set up for a beginner. The is a significant price difference between the toppers and the equivalent solid steel laps. So if price is an issue the 1200 topper will work.
Note: I do recommend people buy a solid steel lap in fine grits like 1,200, just because steel laps are a bit flatter. In the fine pre-polish grits this is important.
You will need a master lap to ues with these plates/toppers.
*** Please note these are made over seas and while the quality is pretty good, there will be some variations. For the price these are hard to beat.
