When do you need a dressing stick? Care and treatment of Laps
Crystalite Dressing Stick Kit - $13.95
1 fine (600 grit laps and up)
1 coarse (below 600 grit only)
These sticks are used to "dress" a steel diamond lap when it becomes "loaded up" and cutting becomes slow.Basically what happens is that the cutting lap becomes "loaded" with swath/waste (Quartz commonly) and/or the diamonds on the cutting lap are forced down into the metal of the lap.
If either of these problems happens the laps slow down and seem to quite cutting. These dressing sticks are designed to dress (almost like sharpening a knife) the diamonds and remove some swath/or metal to expose the diamonds again. Doing this makes the lap cut better.
Note: You should only use these sparingly and only on steel laps. Dressing laps removes metal from the laps and over dressing can damage a lap.
